Game Stack

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Denver Nuggets

These teams will face off for the second time in less than a week after Denver came into the Q and beat the Cleveland Cavaliers last Saturday. This game has some great fantasy appeal for both sides tonight. First the Cavaliers have several injures that will allow some cheaper players to see extended minutes. Secondly the Denver Nuggets are on the second leg of a back-to-back that forced Denver to travel overnight from Dallas back to Denver while Cleveland will have already been in Denver for a full day. Lastly Vegas set the over under in this game at 230.5 tops for tonight, and they combined to score 243 points in there last matchup.

The Cavs have had severe deficiencies when it comes to stopping opposing shooting guards this season, ranking 25th in Fanball points allowed to the position, and that inability to defend the position is why I love Will Barton($7,300) and/or Gary Harris($6,300) tonight. In the last meeting Barton and Harris put up 42 and 43 Fanball points which are both right at or above their values. The Nuggets and Cavaliers both rank in the bottom five in Fanball slowing down opposing point guards as well, so both George Hill($5,100) and Jamal Murray($6,500) are attractive plays tonight.

With Tristan Thompson out for the next two weeks Larry Nance Jr.($5,600) steps in as the new starting center for Cleveland, and he is only priced at $5,600 dollars. He is coming off a career best game with 22 points and 15 rebounds to go along with 48 FB points which was nine times his value. Last but certainly not least, LeBron James($12,700) is a must play tonight after averaging a triple double during the month of February. In the last meeting against the Nuggets LeBron collected a triple double with 70 FB points which is exactly what he needs to be of value. During the Cavs last game LeBron had the advantage of sitting out the whole fourth quarter which means he will be will rested tonight.

Paul Millsap($6,700) is a good bet to be of value tonight as the Cavs rank last in Fanball slowing down opposing power forwards. One punt option in this game is Cedi Osman($3,200) of the Cavaliers. He is coming off the bench now, but will see extended minutes with Thompson, Love, and Jeff Green all out tonight for Cleveland. Cedi’s price tag is only $3,200 dollars which means he needs 17 Fanball points to be of value, and he has exceeded that mark in each of his last two games.

Top Tier Value

Anthony Davis - C - $12,900

Anthony Davis is carrying the Pelicans as they are currently riding a nine game win streak. Davis and the Pelicans face a Sacramento Kings team that is one of many teams in the league who are actively tanking for the #1 draft pick.  Since the Kings have started playing younger inexperienced guys at center they have really struggled to contain opposing centers, surrendering an average of 50 Fanball points over their last five games. The last three starting centers to face the Kings (Jarrett Allen, Enes Kanter, and Rudy Gobert) have all gone off, scoring 39, 41, and 48 Fanball points, all either above or right at their respective values.

Top Tier Fade

Donovan Mitchell - SG - $8,100

Donovan Mitchell had a whirlwind All Star Week participating in the Rising Stars game and also winning the 2018 Slam Dunk Contest. I believe the extra workload during the All Star break is catching up to Mitchell. In his past 10 games he has performed over value only twice. He faces a Indiana Pacers team that features Victor Oladipo who leads the league in steals with an average of 2.2 steals per game. Both of these teams are bottom ten in the league in pace which should translate to a low scoring slow game. The last time Mitchell faced the Pacers he scored 32 Fanball points well below the 45 Fanball points he needs to be 5 times his value.

Mid Tier Values

JaMychael Green - PF - $6,500

This is forecasted to be an ugly game and will be borderline unwatchable if your not a fan of either team. Just because you’d rather watch paint dry than watch the Grizzlies and Bulls play doesn’t mean you should avoid this matchup for fantasy purposes thought. JaMychael Green has had six straight double-doubles and has performed over value in five of those games. The Bulls have sat their vets, opting to play their inexperienced rookies, which has resulted in a nearly non existent defensive presence. The Bulls rank 27th slowing down opposing power forwards allowing an unsightly average of 40 Fanball points a night.

Rajon Rondo - PG - $6,400

Rajon Rondo has been a big part of the New Orleans Pelicans nine game win streak averaging just over 9 assists a game over that stretch. Rondo takes on his former team the Sacramento Kings and Rondo’s time in Sacramento was anything but sweet. I would think Rondo would love to stick it to the Kings. Add in that over their last ten games Sacramento is ranked dead last in Fanball at slowing down opposing point guards, rank 23rd in opponents assists allowed, and you have a recipe for a huge fantasy performance from Rondo

Jonas Valanciunas - C - $5,400

Jonas Valanciunas playing time is usually defined by the opposing center or lack there of one. Tonight he should see plenty of floor time facing off against the giant frontcourt of Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin. An example of Jonas facing a premier talented center was the Raptors game on Sunday against the Charlotte Hornets where Jonas logged 30 minutes and collected 42 Fanball points battling against Dwight Howard. Jonas has had varied results against the Pistons this season, dropping 45 Fanball points in the first matchup, but just 13 Fanball points in the most recent matchup. Despite the size Detroit has down low, the Pistons rank 26th in Fanball point allowed to centers over the last ten games, which gives me confidence Valanciunas will be able to get the 28 FB points necessary to hit his value.

DJ Augustin - PG - $5,200

Since acquiring Isaiah Thomas from the Cavaliers the Lakers have struggled to slow down opposing point guards. Over the Lakers last five games they rank 26th in Fanball slowing down opposing point guards. Over DJ Augustin’s last five games he has played at least 25 minutes, has scored in double figures every game, and has averaged 6.5 assists per game over that five game stretch.

Mid Tier Fade

Kyle Kuzma - SF - $5,900

With Brandon Ingram out with a groin injury tonight Kyle Kuzma will move from the bench to starter tonight. Kuzma has seen his production dip with the acquisition of Isaiah Thomas and the emergence of Julius Randle. In order to reach five times his value Kuzma needs 32 Fanball points, a mark he has eclipsed only once in his past ten games. Despite the Magic being a poor defensive team they are stingy on opposing small forwards as Jonathan Simmons is a solid defender. The Magic rank 13th in Fanball slowing down opposing small forwards.

Low Tier Values

Reggie Bullock - SG - $4,100

In each of his last five games Reggie Bullock  has eclipsed 30 minutes on the floor three times, has taken at least 12 shots in four of those five games, and has performed over value in four out of those five games as well. Bullock faces a Toronto Raptors team that will be in the middle of a back-to-back traveling overnight from Toronto to Detroit. Expect a fatigued Toronto Raptors team tonight in a must win situation to keep their playoff hopes alive for the Detroit Pistons.

Trevor Ariza - SF - $4,400

Despite only playing nine guys last night against the Oklahoma City Thunder the Houston Rockets pulled out the win. The Rockets were short handed last night with injuries, and in the middle of a back-to-back could be without Ryan Anderson yet again. Trevor Ariza logged 33 minutes last night, and collected 29 Fanball points which is 7 times his value. The Milwaukee Bucks enter tonight’s contest ranking 27th in Fanball over their last five games slowing down opposing small forwards.

Dillon Brooks - SF - $4,200

The Memphis Grizzlies are depleted team both in talent and in healthy bodies. The Grizzlies haven’t had more than 11 players active for three straight games, and that streak looks like it could to run to four tonight. Tyreke Evans, Mario Chalmers, and Andrew Harrison are out tonight. Jarell Martin is questionable, and Chandler Parsons as well as Wayne Selden are on a minutes restriction. With all of those injuries Brooks is almost guaranteed to see a lion's share of minutes.  During the Grizzlies last game Brooks played 35 minutes, and was a little more than 6.5 times his value.
