Fanball FAAB – Week 16 Waiver Wire Advice

by and • December 17, 2019

Words by Rob Willette, Scott Fish, and Paul Charchian. Spending recommendations by Paul Charchian.

Drew Lock – Broncos vs DET – 6% rostered
After a brilliant performance against the Texans, Drew Lock crashed back to earth on a snowy Sunday against the Chiefs, failing to throw a touchdown and piling up a mere 208 yards despite 40 yards. But we can forgive him for a down performance in poor conditions on the road against a rapidly improving defense and give him a second look this Sunday against a Lions defense more giving than Ros in Winterfell.  Despite Matt Patricia’s reputation as a defensive mind, Detroit regressed under his watch, failing to generate much of a pass rush and lacking much a defensive identity. It takes some cojones to fire up Lock in Week 16, but you’ve made it this far: a title won with Lock is worth a lifetime of bragging rights.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 100%

Mike Boone  – Vikings vs GB – 3% rostered
It was another deflating sight for Vikings fans on Sunday afternoon, as Dalvin Cook appeared to aggravate his existing injury, writhing in pain on the turf in front of a purple-clad crowd in LA.  Both Cook and Mike Zimmer appeared optimistic Monday with regards to Cook’s status, but you have to wonder if the Vikings contemplate giving him some rest down the stretch. Even if Cook suits up, he’s a risk to depart at any moment and backup Alexander Mattison is not expected to be recovered from his ankle injury.  Mike Boone has always run well when given the chance, and torched the Chargers in garbage time to the tune of 56 yards and 2 scores. If Cook misses Week 16, Boone is a plug and play RB2 within one of the league’s friendliest running schemes and going against Green Bay’s barely there run defense. Even if Cook suits up, Boone is a flex in a pinch given his performance Sunday.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 100%

Boston Scott  – Eagles vs DAL – 8% rostered
After showing out in place of a sidelined Miles Sanders in Week 14, Boston Scott stayed involved in Week 15 despite Sanders’ monster effort.  A depleted group of Eagles receivers left Scott to do quite a bit of intermediate work in the passing game, racking up 7 receptions for 39 yards and chipping in 26 yards on 6 carries.  The overall line doesn’t jump out at you, but 13 touches – including 7 of all the important receiving variety – are enough to keep you interested. Jordan Howard’s arm appears to have fallen off, leaving Scott to play second fiddle to Sanders.  It is a role which should continue to make him a viable play in PPR leagues as long as Howard is out.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 100%

Breshad Perriman – Bucs vs HOU – 12% rostered
If you’re saying to yourself, “oh sure, NOW you tell us to pick up Breshad Perriman”, I’ll note that we recommended him last week, before his three-touchdown explosion last week.  Championship week means it is time for strange bedfellows, so dust off those five-year-old Perriman dynasty shares you threw in the attic. Mike Evans Chris Godwin and Scotty Miller are all out, leaving Perriman as Jameis Winston’s go-to receiver.  Perriman could see large volume and for all his faults, Winston can help his receivers post gaudy stats. The Texans just got roasted by AJ Brown last week and Julian Edelman the week before.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 100%

Justin Watson – Bucs vs HOU –  6% rostered
If you can’t get Breshad Perriman, the next man up for the Bucs is Justin Watson, a Scott Fish favorite. He’s an athletic wide receiver who has performed when given extended playing time and that may just be the case here. Scotty Miller was playing ahead of him in the slot but may miss this one after reaggravating his hamstring.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 100%

Greg Ward – Eagles vs DAL – 2% rostered
Activated from the practice squad barely a month ago, Greg Ward is all of a sudden a key figure in a divisional race.  With 9 targets in each of the past 2 games, Ward has surged to the top of a flimsy depth chart to become a favorite target of Carson Wentz.  Dallas is fairly stingy against the pass, but the Eagles are one more wide receiver injury away from submitting a phone call to Vince Papale.  Ward should be in line for another decent target share in Sunday afternoon’s primetime game.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 50%

Chris Conley – Jags @ ATL –  22% rostered
Chris Conley has produced in spot matchups a few times this year, and given the way the Falcons defense has been playing since their Week 7 bye (allowing just six passing touchdowns in six weeks), Conley will need DJ Chark to miss time again. Unfortunately for Conley, Chark was cleared to run and cut on Monday and there is optimism he’ll return for Week 16. If not, Conley could see a bump in targets once again and become flex-worthy.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 25%

Jacob Hollister  – Seahawks vs ARI – 61% rostered
You know the drill by now: fire up any tight end facing the Cardinals.  For cryin’ out loud, Ricky Seals-Jones roasted Arizona last week, scoring twice after catching a grand total of 3 passes in his previous 3 contests.  They’re just pathetic at defending the position, and Jacob Hollister is far more involved in the passing game the RSJ is. A fringe TE1 for most of the year, Hollister is now a set and forget starter in a delicious matchup.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 100%

OJ Howard  – Bucs vs HOU – 41% rostered
Much like Perriman and Watson, this is a play based mostly on “who the heck is Winston going to throw to???” Howard saw eight targets last week, is averaging 60 yards recieving over his last 3 and the Texans are the 2nd worst defense against TEs over their last 5, allowing by far the most tight end yards in that span.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 50%

Noah Fant – Broncos vs DET – 31% rostered
Fant, fairly quietly, has 169 yards and a score in his last two games. He’s been in and out of both games with injuries, but has continued to play and play well. His early season drop issues seem to have vanished and now gets a matchup with a middle of the road Lions team that has given up five touchdowns to tight ends since Week 7.
Charch Blind Bidding Recommendation: 50%
