Fish, Mat, and Trevor go game by game through Sunday’s action and get you all the info you need and may have missed!
Abdullah won’t dress
No, I don’t mean he will take the field with out a uniform. I mean he won’t be taking the field. A historical preseason hero, Ameer failed to do enough to earn a role to start the season. He finds himself as a healthy scratch for the Monday night tilt against the Jets. If for some ridiculous reason he’s on your team, let alone in your starting line up, get him out.
Baldwin to miss time
After missing all of the preseason with knee concerns Doug Baldwin now has a Grade 2 partial MCL tear. Time to be missed has yet to be determined but you can expect to be with out him for the near future. Check the “Player News” section regularly for who out of Brandon Marshall, Jaron Brown or someone else that will be his replacement with the Seahawks. Suddenly that draft value he fell to has lost its luster.
Ian Thomas, next man up
With Greg Olsen set to miss extended time, 4th round rookie, Ian Thomas is set to pick up the slack. Reminder that Ed Dickson had some decent games last year with Olsen out and Thomas flashed in the preseason. By flashed I mean he looked good on the field. He wasn’t wearing a trenchcoat in a parking lot or anything. Well, he might have, but there have been no reports of that kind of flashing. He’s a good speculative pick up and possibly a real cheap DFS play going forward.
Walker likely done for the season after one game
After pronouncing himself the best tight end in the NFL this off season Delanie Walker got less than one game to prove it. Albeit the longest game in league history his season was cut short when he suffered a broken ankle as well as ligament damage. At 34 years old you have to wonder if there’s time left for him to make a comeback. In the meantime second year highly athletic Jonnu Smith will step in for the Titans. Keep an eye out as well for further news regarding Titans QB Marcus Mariota as it becomes available.
Rodgers isn’t human
For the millionth time in his career… a team stupidly gives Aaron Rodgers a couple minutes on the clock while only leading by less than a touchdown. These scenarios have become guaranteed wins for the Packers. Aaron Rodgers, down 20-0… played basically on one leg to beat the Bears Monday night. That injury led me to tweet this (@scottfish24)
We aren’t out of the woods yet. Rodgers told the doctors he was coming back in and said he is playing next week… but was pretty evasive about the specifics of the injury. We will see what the week tells us.
Fitzmagic (Stew Beard) crushes week 1
Ryan Fitzpatrick, who we lovingly call Stew Beard… threw for 417 yards, 4 touchdowns, ran for 36 yards and another touchdown. He absolutely killed it for fantasy owners today, but did you know he went to Harvard?
… yes, everyone knows this. It was a joke. Nice work today, Stew Beard!
Will Fuller to sit
Will Fuller V’s hamstring is acting up again. Fuller should really threaten to not give it dessert, that’s what works when my kids ar acting up. Fuller is likely to miss the potential shootout with the Patriots. This is a huge blow for a guy with high upside today. It also slightly hampers Deshaun Watson’s upside. Others will have to step up, including Bruce Ellington.
Terrible Weather for Steelers/Browns
The Steelers / Browns game is slated for some absolutely terrible weather with multiple inches of rain and 40+ MPH winds. With the Steelers on the road, we at Fanball are uncertain if these winds will somehow correct Big Ben’s inaccuracy on the road or swing it even worse. It’s too risky to try and start him in hopes the wind blows the ball magically to his receivers.
Ajayi saves the night!
Despite only playing one snap in the first quarter, Ajayi came in and looked good in pass pro, was the Eagles best offensive player, and scored two touchdowns. My take on his usage: The Eagles thought they could let Ajayi’s foot heal a little longer, especially with the wet field. Had anybody for the Eagles been effective on offense, especially the running backs, Ajayi may not have played much at all. Fantasy owners should feel lucky that Sproles, Clement, and Smallwood were so ineffective… it forced the Eagles hand to put their best rusher out there for 15 touches.
Wentz to miss several games
It sounds as though Carson Wentz will take a couple extra weeks to relax and get caught up on season 2 of Ozark. Ian Rapoport reported on twitter because that’s where news happens now that Wentz might now suit up until October. Luckily Nick Foles can take the reigns until then. There is a small chance the Eagles just want to sit Wentz and Jeffery to see how big of a hole they can make and then dig themselves out of. Thus creating a cool story everyone will talk about. The main point here is that Foles should be owned in all superflex leagues.
Peterson gets revenge start, again
What remains of the Adrian Peterson we all watched run rampant on the league will get the start this weekend for the Washington professional football team in a revenge game against Peterson’s last team, the Cardinals. This is the 2nd year in a row where Peterson has drawn a Week 1 start against the last team he played for. Last year he rolled up a massive 18 yards on just 6 carries against the Vikings in Week 1. Chris Thompson is off the injury report and should take all the passing down work because unlike Peterson, he is actually capable of catching the ball.
