Traded to Saints

The Saints have acquired QB Teddy Bridgewater from the Jets in exchange for a 3rd-round draft pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

This feels like a win for both sides. Bridgewater has performed very well this preseason for the Jets, but he was never in the long-term plans after the Jets drafted Sam Darnold. New Orleans gets a high-quality backup behind Drew Brees, and potentially an heir apparent whenever the 39-year-old Brees trots off into the sunset. From an immediate fantasy perspective, Bridgewater lends stability to all of the Saints skill position players as a capable backup if anything happens to Brees.

Signs Record Setting Deal

Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has signed a contract extension worth $134 million, including over $100 million guaranteed.

Rodgers surpasses Matt Ryan as the highest paid player in the NFL, and deservedly so. He’s now locked in until 2023 and will remain a fixture atop fantasy football quarterback rankings for as long as his brittle collarbones allow.

Signs Lucrative Contract Extension

The Seahawks have given WR Tyler Lockett a three-year contract extension worth up to $37.8 million, reports Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network.

The speedy former third-round draft pick has shown flashes, but hasn’t lived up to expectations in his first three seasons in Seattle. However, this deal is a clear indication that the Seahawks see big things in store for Lockett, and there is a lot of opportunity with 217 targets vacated from last year’s receiving corps. Lockett will be a focal point for Russell Wilson on the other side of Doug Baldwin, and looks like a steal at his current ADP of WR53.

Knee could be an issue all season

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin (knee) said he’s at 80 to 85 percent health right now and that his knee injury is something he’ll have to deal with all year. Not good news for Russell Wilson’s top target, and potentially big news for Tyler Lockett, a trendy sleeper WR who could play a bigger role if Baldwin is limited. Baldwin is a high-risk, high-reward selection at his current 3rd-round ADP (WR14) in MFL10s best ball leagues. In a tough Week 1 matchup on the road in Denver, Seattle’s pass-catchers are contrarian plays, at best, in Fanball DFS contests.
